State Medical Board websites (2021) Look for the Physician Profile to find information on the status of your physicians’ license.
DocInfo – Federation of State Medical Boards search for doctor licensing information. This site includes information about all states in which a doctor is licensed. Most will show disciplinary actions, but some will refer back to a specific state medical board site for full information.
Open Payments – Search for payments made by drug and medical device companies to physicians and teaching hospitals.
Wall Street Journal’s “Medicare Unmasked” for looking up doctors’ Medicare billing records. Shows what procedures they do for Medicare and how often.
National Practitioner Databank Public Use Data File – The NPDB Public Use Data File contains selected variables from medical malpractice payment and adverse licensure, clinical privileges, professional society membership, and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reports (adverse actions) received by the NPDB concerning physicians, dentists, and other licensed health care practitioners. It also includes reports of Medicare and Medicaid exclusion actions taken by the Department of HHS Office of Inspector General.
