What type of medical harm did you experience or witness? Healthcare-Acquired Infection
Please describe what happened. Had hemi-colectomy surgery to remove cancerous tissue. Developed an infection at the stomach incision after one day. This led to staples having to be removed and and wet dressings to care for the open infection. Use of antibiotics subsequently led to contracting c-diff. Now undergoing Folfox chemo treatment and have since developed c-diff twice. I attribute all this to my stay at Fawcett Memorial hospital for the surgery. What should have been a 4 or 5 day stay ended up being 10 days due to the infection and c-diff. The $200,000 plus invoice (excluding doctors/surgeons) just added insult to injury.
What was the outcome of the medical harm issue? Extended length of hospital stay
