Marian Hollingsworth

Marian Hollingsworth became involved in patient advocacy after the death of her father from antipsychotic drugs without consent and MRSA. Her complaint with the California Department of Public Health resulted in a law change (AFL-1108) which requires patients transferred from hospitals on antipsychotic drugs to have verified consent before those drugs can be given at a nursing home. Marian started working with Consumers Union’s Safe Patient Project in 2014. She attends meetings of the Medical Board of California, often testifying on patient safety issues, and keeps track of doctor disciplines. Marian helped bring media attention to the “Docs on Probation” issue in California. Marian used to work in television news as a producer and uses those skills to promote medical stories to reporters. She served as a public member with the Hospital Acquired Infection Advisory Committee for the CDPH and on the Partnership to Improve Dementia Care.  She is a co-founder of The Patient Safety League and has helped to compile a website listing disciplined doctors, including doctors disciplined for sexual misconduct in California. She actively engages in PSAN’s Medical Board Roundtable. Marian has a degree in Spanish and Journalism from San Diego State University.
